Multiculturalism in Chile
Chile is a country with a great
cultural diversity. There are several reasons for that. On the one hand, the
existence of native indigenous people, who lived and live in different
geographic areas of its territory:
Norte Grande, Norte Chico, Zona Central,
Zona Sur, Zona Austral, and, of course, Rapa Nui (Easter Island). On the other
hand, the arrival of Spanish immigrants in the sixteenth century caused mixing
processes, mainly in the center and the south of the country. Likewise, in the
late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, other groups of immigrants also
came (in addition to Spaniards, who arrived in this time too,
Italians, Swiss, Frenchmen, Yugoslavs, and Germans). Besides, Chile received
Palestinians, Syrians, and Lebanese until the middle of the twentieth century .
