IMN Interview Series:Osama Moharem :“I think it’s no difference we are live with all ethnics and religious…..”


Osama Moharem from Alexandria Egypt, he is graphic designer , has an initiative  to lead Alexandria to be a best historical and touristic city in the globe.



1.      First off, how about we get to know you briefly?

We are a tourism and history Document Center in Alexandria we study how to Export and display the Alexandria history to people who study and love history and heritage by an several creative ways graphic design , movies , Motion , Exhibitions and museums .


2.      How did you get interested in multicultural issues?

In Egypt specific in Alexandria we are multicultural from ancient so we called a cosmopolitan city, but after the second millennium we are get down in culture and we focused another things away from the culture of city. Then we think about how to be localized to publish our culture on worldwide.




3.      Which model is more feasible, multiculturalism or assimilation?

Assimilation before multiculturalism in Egypt must do that, but in Alexandria multiculturalism is life style. We lived with Greeks, Italian, French, Armenians, Arabs, Spanish, and Syrians. 

4.      What is the difference between racism and ethnic discrimination? What is the relationship between multiculturalism and human rights?

I think it’s no difference we are live with all ethnics and religious they are our friends and neighbors. It’s very strong relationship if we haven’t multiculturalism we haven’t human rights.

5.      In what ways have you integrated cross-cultural, multicultural issues as part of your professional development?

I Told before we are a Cosmopolitan city am research how Was the city lived from my family and old people that I hear a story telling till now from important pints who witness the multiculturalism like old buildings old restaurants , Banks , Schools . And how renew and rediscover this people and Export their stories.


6.      How we are to best understand multiculturalism, and is it a good or bad thing for each multi-ethnic country?

In Egypt we are well to understand that and specific in north coast cities, another Mediterranean country too.

7.      Is Egypt a multicultural or homogeneous country?

Yes.

8.      What are the effects of multiculturalism in Egypt?

The effect is Nostalgic and are very satisfied because they saw their history again in new direction and renewable.

9.      What are some key resources on factors of successful multiculturalism in Egypt?

Our triangle. (History education – save Heritage – Renew local culture)

10.  What are your current research interests?

Modern History in Alexandria Egypt from Mohamed Ali dynasty.

 11. What work are you currently doing in the community?

     Contribute my graphic design to Export the history research in simple and modern way to make people know their city history background.

 12. Lastly, if we must summarize…If you could give one message to the Multicultural World, what would it be?
